Suzuki Jingle Bell Strings

Hello Everyone!  Yes although we look forward to the warm and cozy Thanksgiving Holiday in two weeks, the Christmas season is quite here.  We are preparing for our Holiday concerts on December 19th at 10:30am at the Salt Lake City Public Library Auditorium downtown, and on December 21st at 4pm at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in the mezzanine.  Today Olivia Gonzales' school outfit was perfect to add on a Christmas vest.  Here is Olivia modeling the girls outfit for the Suzuki Jingle Bell Strings Concerts:

Black skirt with black tights and black shoes, white blouse and red vest.

The boys outfit is identical except black trousers of course.  Boys may wear a bow tie or regular tie; that is optional.  The rental cost for the red vest is $20.  If you grow out of the one you have, we trade it in for a larger size.  When you leave the studio just return the vest that you have.  Everyone should try on their red vests ASAP.  If it doesn't fit, I may have to order a new one for you. There is a shortage of medium size vests.  Kari Child, Sophie's mom is a wonderful seamstress and has agreed to make new vests this year.  However the orders need to be in by next week at the latest.
PLEASE TRY ON YOUR RED VEST!  
The Christmas books are ready.  The cost for a new book is $5.  Please bring your Christmas book every week to lessons and to every group lesson in November and December.

Time to Update The Godfrey Studio Blog!!

Dear Families and Friends:

Sadly my blogging entries are a year and a half behind!  So much has happened in the Godfrey Violin and Viola Studio since April 2014, many concerts and recitals, group lessons, two Suzuki Institutes at the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute in Draper, a Godfrey Studio Care Center Tour on July 31, 2014, the Utah Federation of Music Clubs Junior Festival in March 2015 and more recently a fun Canyon Play-In at the Storm Mountain picnic area in Big Cottonwood Canyon on August 14, 2015.  Following are some images of our experiences. Thank you for taking this musical journey with me....

WE ARE SO PROUD OF EVERYONE'S PROGRESS AND PARTICIPATION.  30 students performed on the Fall Recitals held on October 1-2, 2015 at Summerhays Music.  Our amazing accompanists Denise Farrington and Jules Snarr completed our polished playing with so much skill and sensitivity.

• WEAR WHITE LONG-SLEEVED DRESS SHIRT/BLOUSE, BLACK PANTS/SKIRT, BLACK SOCKS/TIGHTS & BLACK SHOES. TEACHERS WEAR BLACK PLEASE.
• DON’T FORGET TO PACK YOUR SHOULDER REST & VIOLIN/BOW.
• ARRIVE BETWEEN 6:30-6:45.  THIS GIVES YOU ENOUGH TIME TO FIND PARKING, WALK, FIND SEATS, GET PROGRAMS, & TUNE SO WE CAN END ON TIME!  SNOW STORMS ALWAYS SEEM TO HIT THE NIGHT OF GRADUATION!
• IF YOUR STUDENT IS GRADUATING FROM BOOKS 6, 7, 8, OR 10, PLEASE ARRIVE AT 6:00 FOR A MANDATORY REHEARSAL WITH THEIR GROUP & PIANIST.  PLEASE LEAVE YOUR CASES IN THE CHOIR ROOM NEXT TO THE HALL. THERE WILL BE ASSIGNED SEATING IN THE AUDITORIUM FOR THESE GROUPS. FIRST GROUP WITH ALL STUDENTS & LEADER WILL BEGIN.
• MOZART CONCERTO IN A MAJOR – WITH NO CADENZA GRADUATES ARE TO ATTEND A MANDATORY REHEARSAL AT SUZANNE BARRACLOUGH – 1902 S. 600 E. TUESDAY, JAN. 28^TH AT 6PM  ACCOMPANIST WILL ATTEND.
• ENTER THE PROPERTY AT 12300 S. & 300 E.  PARK IN THE B & C LOTS DIRECTLY ADJACENT TO 300 EAST ENTRANCE.
• ONCE YOU'VE ARRIVED, GO DIRECTLY INTO THE AUDITORIUM AND SIT ANYWHERE YOU'D LIKE
• QUICKLY GET VIOLINS/BOWS OUT OF THEIR CASES, THEN, LEAVING CASES WITH YOUR SEATS, AT 6:30 PM. THE TEACHERS WILL BE IN FRONT OF THE STAGE TO HELP TUNE.  AFTER BEING TUNED, DON'T FORGET A PROGRAM AND RETURN TO YOUR SEATS KEEPING VIOLINS EASILY ACCESSIBLE.
• ONCE WE HAVE MOST OF THE VIOLINS TUNED, WE WILL WELCOME EVERYONE AND ASK FOR THE BOOK 9 & 10 GRADUATES TO RETURN TO THE HALLWAY TO BE LINED UP TO GO ON STAGE. 
• PLEASE DEMONSTRATE YOUR BEST CONCERT ETIQUETTE!! CELL PHONES ARE TERRIBLY DISRUPTING AND TAKE ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE STUDENTS-PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF THOSE AROUND YOU.

·         REMEMBER TWINKLES WILL PLAY VARIATIONS A, B, C, D, E, THEME, & BETWEEN EACH VARIATION THE PIANO WILL PLAY 2 MEASURES OF INTRODUCTION. WE WILL PLAY TWINKLES TWO TIMES.  WE WILL DIVIDE THE GROUP IN TWO.  THE FIRST GROUP WILL PLAY AND THE SECOND GROUP WILL BE THE FINALE.

• MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENTS REMEMBER TO BOW WITH THE GROUP AFTER THEIR PERFORMANCE!
• ALL REPEATS WILL BE TAKEN IN ALL THE PIECES, EXCEPT THE VERACINI SONATA (BK 8) WILL HAVE NO REPEATS!
• IF YOU HAVE A STUDENT WHO'S GRADUATING MULTIPLE LEVELS, REMIND THEM TO STAY ON STAGE AFTER THEIR FIRST LEVEL WHILE THE NEW LEVEL OF STUDENTS ARRIVES.
• STUDENTS WILL SIT WITH THEIR FAMILIES UNTIL THEIR GRADUATION PIECE IS ANNOUNCED TO EXIT TO THE HALL AND LINE UP.   AFTER PERFORMING, STUDENTS WILL RETURN TO SIT WITH THEIR FAMILIES.
• WE START ON TIME.  THIS CONCERT IS PLANNED TO BE CLOSE TO 1 HR 15 MIN.  PLEASE SUPPORT ALL GRADUATING LEVELS AND STAY UNTIL THE END OF THE CONCERT!  IF YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT STAY, QUIETLY LEAVE BETWEEN PIECES.
• TEACHERS WILL BE ON STAGE AFTER TWINKLE PERFORMANCE TO HAND OUT CERTIFICATES.

Suzuki Jingle Bells Strings

Did you know that you are a member of the Godfrey Studio awesome holiday performing group, Suzuki Jingle Bell Strings?  Every Christmas season we prepare for our December concerts by learning and reviewing the repertoire beginning in October, sometimes sooner if there is a cool new advanced piece to memorize.  It's okay if you don't participate maybe because you are going out of town, or you are a young beginner, or you simply can't add the commitment to your schedule.  But it sure is fun, practicing the pieces at group lessons and playing two concerts for all of our family and friends and many other people.

I have given you all a Christmas book ($5) and this you will have it forever until it wears out!!  In the meantime every year you will learn a few new pieces from the program until eventually you are playing every single piece!!  When we do music on the concert that you don't know, you can either stand in rest position or I will have you exit the stage until that part of the program is over and it is time for the next song that you know.  The dress for the concert is black trousers black socks and black shoes for the boys with a white shirt and long tie or bow tie, red vest; black skirt black tights and black shoes for the girls with a white 3/4 sleeve blouse for the girls and red vest.  Remind me that you need a red vest and I will fit you with one ($20).  This you will keep and wear every year for the concert until you grow out of it or graduate. When you need a larger size just bring it back and we will exchange it.  If I don't have your size our wonderful Kari Child will be making extra vests for us so we will all be looking good!!  Try on your Christmas vest now so to make sure it fits for this year.

The mystery performer is our Jingle Bell player.  Who will it be?  Every year I invite a young person not in the Godfrey Studio to play the jingle bells with us on several of our fun pieces.  Soon we will know!!  The final Jingle Bell Strings rehearsal is December 14 from 10am to 12noon at my ward building.  I will give you directions that week.  The Jingle Bell Strings concerts are on December 21 at 11am at the downtown library auditorium and at 2:30pm at the Parklane Senior Apartments on 1st South and 6th East.  I will have invitations so that you can invite all of your family and friends to the Library which seats 200 people.  Let's fill it up with all of the people we love to play for!!  Happy Holidays!!

Students from our violin studios 
will combine & perform together!

Each group will perform for five minutes.   It is encouraged to choose from the Suzuki Literature with coordinating duet & ensemble parts if desired.  All students must have music memorized.  It is the responsibility of each group to rehearse with their own accompanist prior to super activity.   Payment for accompanists will be covered by the super activity budge

The Godfrey Studio will combine with Julie Newton's students and Devon Colby's students.  The leader of this group will be Ruth Godfrey.  Our name is "Heavenly in Holladay" and our pieces are Tzena in Round form, Hunters' Chorus with the duet part, and Ave Maria with the Harmony part.

Spring Recitals Info

Hello Everyone!

In two weeks we will be rehearsing for the Spring Recitals to be held on Friday May 31st at the Summerhays Recital Hall, 5450 Green Street in Murray Utah, 84123.  The first program is at 6pm; the second at 7:30.  You can choose to be on either recital.  We will try to have about the same number of performers on each one, that way the length of the program is no longer than an hour.

Sign up for a rehearsal time with Jules, our fabulous accompanist in the studio.
